Philip Roth - the Dying animal (audible plus)
David Kepesh is white-haired and over sixty, an eminent TV culture critic and star lecturer at a New York college, when he meets Consuela Castillo, a decorous, well-mannered student of twenty-four, the daughter of wealthy Cuban exiles, who promptly puts his life into erotic disorder. Since the sexual revolution of the 1960s, when he left his wife and child, Kepesh has experimented with living what he calls an 'emancipated manhood', beyond the reach of family or a mate. Over the years, he has refined that exuberant decade of protest and licence into an orderly way of life in which he is both unimpeded in the world of Eros and studiously devoted to his aesthetic purists. But the youth and beauty of Consuela undo him completely. His worldliness, his confidence, his reason desert him, and a maddening sexual possessiveness transports him to the depths of deforming jealousy.
Das hatte ich auf der Liste, weil es das noch kostenlos bei Audible gab und ich es mit der Länge genau schaffen könnte, bis mein Abo abläuft. Es war eine Punktlandung
Roth ist mir ja beim ersten Mal mit viel Sex und dem Thema Alter(n) und dem Tod aufgefallen. Zuerst dachte ich, dass das fast nur Sex wird, aber in dem kurzen Buch wurde noch ein sehr guter Abriss über das Daten nach der sexuellen Revolution, Eifersucht und über das Daten bzw das Leben als (Single-) Mann gegeben, der wieder treffend, aber auch traurig war.
Trotz der Erotik war das Buch nie extrem pornographisch, sondern auf seine eigene Art und Weise "classy".
Ich denke, Roths bekannteste Werke werden auf jeden Fall nochmal interessant, aber so nehme ich vor allem die mit, die im Abo enthalten sind.
ich ich finde auch gut, dass er sagt, es ist nicht auf jede Industrie oder jedem Bereich anwendbar, aber man kann für seinen Bereich etwas Gutes aus dem Buch ziehen.
